![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's only when you get further round does the view becomes truly breathtaking. The view at first may be obstructed by trees you can hear and see the A303 far below, but you'll soon get a glimpse of the country beyond. ![]() You'll notice a raised earth wall on which you can trace the edge of the fort - one of the later additions to the long history of construction here. Take the left fork at the top and you come out onto the plateau of the hill fort itself. It's wooded - we saw it in March and it's still impressive with large and ancient gnarled trees. Turn right outside the car park, then take a left by the pub up the country lane and you're immediately walking on the site of the hill fort itself. Chickens do roam free over the car park at times so careful backing out! There's a sign detailing the history - stop and read it as it will help you get a picture of what happened there in the past and its lengthy history of occupation. Car parking is easy - follow the signs from the A303 and at the end of the quaint village is a small but adequate free car park right next door to a farm. If you like quiet and secluded locations, grand vistas, lots of space to walk in, dog friendly and a three thousand year history then Cadbury Castle should be high on your list. ![]()
